Bristol Playgoers need new members!  We are a friendly drama group performing script-in-hand play readings every few weeks at the Newman Hall, Grange Court Road, Bristol BS9 4DR.

Join us to experience a wide variety of plays, a sociable, friendly atmosphere, the excitement of preparing a performance in just 2 or 3 rehearsals and a well-earned drink in the bar afterwards! If you’ve never been on stage before but would like to have a go, play readings are an accessible first step to gaining confidence and learning stagecraft.

There is no pressure to perform, you are welcome to join as part of our audience. A year’s membership of £50 (no matter what you choose to do) works out at just over £4 per night of entertainment – a bargain! Contact us to find out more on bristolplaygoers@gmail.com or follow us on social media to see what we do.

At Bristol Playgoers Club, you will get the opportunity to experience a variety of different plays - comedy, tragedy, serious drama, farce, traditional, modern, historical, factual - you name it! Where else would you receive such a varied diet for such a bargain price?

Whether you prefer to act, direct, help in a front-of-house role or work in a technical/backstage capacity, there is something for everyone. We also welcome those who just want to be an audience member.

Play readings are great if you can’t commit to months of rehearsals – and no line-learning required! Despite holding scripts, we use costume, props and set dressing to make our performances engaging and successful. You'd be amazed at what 'stage business' you can learn to do one-handed. Even the most experienced actors enjoy the challenge of acting whilst keeping track of their place in the script - oh, and then the tricky skill of a page turn! It's all good fun and a satisfying challenge too.
